Basalt Restaurant is located in the historic Commercial Hotel at the top end of the village of Millthorpe, NSW. Built in 1877, the hotel now houses Basalt, which is currently owned by the team at Urban Graze and offers a unique dining experience using local produce of the Central Western Region of NSW. The restaurant theme is modern pub food with plenty of twists, two open fires and an all local wine list.
The new venue has no association with the previous owners of Bluestone Restaurant in anyway whatsoever!.
The main bar hosts an interesting tapas menu with 2 fireplaces, lots of couches, free pool and darts with cool funky music. Some of the highlighted produce will be hops grown for the new local brewery which will be opening soon, bee hives, coloured carrots, loads of herbs, gold and purple raspberries, chooks and the garden will also be home to a cutting from one of the oldest fig trees in Australia.
Early spring 2010 (if it ever dries out) will see the big back block of the hotel converted into a kitchen garden, which will supply not only the restaurant, but Urban Graze cooking school in Millthorpe. (more).
